In a nutshell...

Hey everyone!   Here is what we have done so far.    I got these off the monolithic website.  Please check out this website.  It explains the whole monolithic process, and also has many pictures of other domes throughout the country.    Check out   http://www.monolithic.com

First comes the Concrete Slab...

Then comes the airform.... (that is to be inflated)

Then comes the polyuretheane foam

Then comes rebar. (Reinforced steel)

Last but not least...Spraying concrete (shotcrete)

After the shell of the house is up, it is like any other house (for the most part).

Why are we building a house like this?

No it is not because we are trying to be "green." Monolithic domes are cost-efficient, earth-friendly, extremely durable and easily maintained. Monolithic Domes uses about 50% less energy for heating and cooling than a same-size, conventionally constructed building.   (From monolithic.com)
