May I Introduce the Geothermal Heat Pump...

We are going to use a geothermal heat pump to heat and cool our house. Today it was delivered.

Quack Quack: Duct Work

Now onto the duct work. Suprisingly, Adam has never done this type of duct work before. So, we both learned at the same time. Adam would connect the pieces together, and I would tape them up (so the air would not get out). William came over one Friday night to look at the house, and we asked if he wanted to stay the night and help us work on the house the next day. He stayed the whole day on Saturday, and got a lot done! Thanks, William!

This was after we put the pieces together.
Then, I taped it to keep it sealed.

Trying to draw a perfect circle.

This way was MUCH EASIER!

Now, that we are done building it, we are
hanging it up

Getting Started on the plumbing.

I can't belive we are onto the plumbing now. Look at how much Adam and Michael got done this weekend.

Our future toilet!

Electrical Boxes

I woke up one afternoon after working all night and this is what I saw. There were electrical boxes EVERYWHERE!! We definately will not be having a shortage of outlets. Haha

More and More Conduit

June 2009:  Conduit

These guys have been working really hard on all conduit.  They have been getting a lot done.

There was one more piece of plywood that needed
nailed in, so instead of going outside, Adam just opened the
window and leaned over.  It helps to be tall sometimes!

Drilling holes to put the conduit through.

Trying to force the conduit through the little holes

Micheal was trying to burn down the house...I don't think
he realized that it wouldn't burn because it is concrete.  Haha!
Just kidding!   He was using the torch to bend the plastic.

Everybody say..."Owe, Awh..."  Beautiful works guys!

Here is my first injury.  Look at the picture on the left.
See the door shim...I was bending over sweeping some stuff
up, and when I went to stand up, I stood up fast and jammed
my head right into that thing.  OUCH!!!!  The picture on the
right is the injury site.  Doesn't look too bad, but it hurt like hell.
I had a headache for 3 days!

Last Big Window and Some Conduit

We had one more window to put in.   After that Adam and Michael started working on the conduit.  Michael is the husband of a friend that I work with.   He is an electrician and has been a lot of help!  Thanks Michael!!

Our last big window is in!

We now have door handles on the back door
and can get in and out!  Wahoo!

Septic Tank and Geothermal

May 2009:  A Big Messy Yard

I don't even know where to start with this weekend.   My brother-in-law Aaron came out with 2 Bobcats.  (He used to work for Bobcat of Indy and has helped us out so much by letting us use the Bobcats.)   The weekend started out at aprox. 6am.  I drove the truck to Noblesville to pick up the septic tank.  I had to make trips: 1 for the tank and 1 for all the pipes.   As I was doing that, Don (my father-in-law) and Adam were digging a trench to put all the pex tubing for the geothermal heat pump.   We also had to put the pex tubing in the trench and then bury it.  (The tubing is coiled up and we had to make sure that it didn't get kinked.) Easier said than done.  This was very challenging, especially when the dirt kept caving in.

We also had to dig the trenches for the septic tank pipes and and aslo dig a big hole to put the septic tank in.    (Thank you Bobcats, and Thank you Aaron).

This is where the geothermal will be connected to the inside.

               Septic Tank

I had to zip tie all these together so they would not kink.
This took MANY hours.

Since we had the bobcat, we got
rid off all the excess concrete and
other junk that was outside the windows.

Now on the other side of the house.

This is in the backyard.
We dug a HUGE HOLE instead of 2
trenches. This made it much easier.

Now time to cover it back up.

Septic tank pipes.

This was a very long weekend that didn't go by without a few arguments.  We worked aprox. 14-15 hours both days.  I was completely exhausted.  I remembered why I became a Neonatal nurse instead of a constuction worker. I'm not used to that much physical work.
