Micah comes to help!

October 16-Oct 25:

Adam's brother, Micah who lives in North Carolina, came to Indiana to help us work on the house for a little over a week. Adam took an entire week off of work to work on the house. Our farm house is getting very cold on certain days. We don't have a way to heat our house (besides a little space heater in the bedroom. So, we really want to get into the new house sooner than later. Our hopes were that we would get enough done to be able to move in. We came very close. Hopefully next weekend, (Halloween weekend), we will be able to move it.

I don't even know where to start. We got so much done. Most days, we worked about 12-13 hours a day. There was one day that Adam and Micah worked from 8am-4am. I am amazed by these 2 guys. There were 2 full days when I did not work, and helped them work on the house for a good 12 hours or so. I was exhausted!!!!!!! I'm not used to that much physical work. Taking care of sick babies for 12 hours is a lot easier (for me) that working on the house! Haha!

The first morning that Micah was here. This was the temp in the house.

So, this is where he ended up sleeping. We put his mattress on
the boxes of oak floor for the upstairs. :) It was nice and toasty in the dome!

The Cabients are Delivered

October 12, 2009:

Today our cabinets were delivered! This is very exciting! It took a good hour or so to bring them all into the house. The 2 guys that delivered them were pretty enthralled with the dome. They told me, "When I talked to your husband on the phone, he said to look for a big white dome. Haha. Well, he wasn't joking, it really is a big white dome." All the cabinets are still in boxes so I really can't tell what they look like, but I am sure they are beautiful! I can't wait until we install them.

Next week, Adam is taking off the entire week to work on the house. His brother, Micah, is coming up to stay with us and help us work on the dome. Once these two brothers get together, a lot of work gets done. We are hoping to be able to move in (atleast partially) by the time Micah leaves. I will keep you updated! Thanks for reading!

These 2 boxes will be the pantrys.

Tiling the Kitchen

October 2009:
Adam's friends from work, Rick and Scott are doing our tile for us. They also helped us out with the concrete slab. They started out with the kitchen. It really is turning out nice. It looks even better than I imagined it.

The very beginning of the kitchen tile.

Rick York cutting the tile.

Scott using mortar to stick the tile to the slab.

After a couple hours

After Day 1 of Tiling

Almost done with Day 2

This will be where the island will go.
There is a pattern around it.

Electrical Meter

End of September 2009:
I got to spend some good quality time with one of my best friends, Julia! First, I picked her up, and we went to the tile shop to place our order for the bathroom tile. We still had to pick out some accents, so she was a great help. I brought home several samples, and Adam picked out the one that Julia picked out! After the tile shop, we went to lunch where I had the yummiest bread ever!! Ohh yah, this is a blog about the house...After lunch, we went to Lumber Liquidators to place our order for the hardwood bamboo floors. She came home with me, and we cleaned out the dome before Adam got home. Her husband, Matt, also came over after he got off work. We dug a hole to put our electric meter in. I drove to Lowes to get some wire, while Adam, Julia, & Matt continued to work on digging a trench, and other odds and ends. When I got home with the wire, we had to feed it through the conduit to the outside where the meter was-- a very difficult 4 person job. Thanks, Julia & Matt for helping us that day! We appreciate the help and it was fun hanging out with you!
Here are some pics from the day!

Sweeping the dome

Digging the hole to put the electric meter in.

Scraping the excess foam off the 2x4's

Good work, Julia!

This shot was posed. It took all 4 of us to do it. Matt went outside to pull the wires through.
Julia and I both held 2 wires (so they would not get tangled with the others) and Adam would push them through.

The trench they dug. This is where the wires from
the picture before are coming out.

All done! And yes, we dug that hole!!

Kitchen Tile Decisions

October 2009:
The only thing that was left to pick out was the kitchen tile. We ended up deciding on some tile I found at Lowes called "Sienna Almond." We got a REALLY good deal on this tile. It should look nice in the kitchen.

Kitchen tile with accents.

This will be a border around the island in the kitchen.

Just like the bathroom tile. There will be 4 big tiles with this little piece shaped as a diamond in the corner of the 4 tiles.

Hardwood Floor Decisions

End of September 2009:
After looking at about a million different hardwood floors, we decided to go with Bamboo. I also picked out these samples the very first day I went out looking.

This is the floor we picked out for the downstairs. It will be everywhere downstairs except the kitchen, bathroom, and masterbedroom.

This is also Bamboo, just a darker shade. We are going to put this in our masterbedroom.

Decisions Finally Made!!!!!!!!

End of September 2009:
I want to start of this entry with a little story...
Once upon a time...haha...Just kidding.

Adam is a big Brett Favre fan! He is sad every year when he retires, and happy when he "un-retires" every year. Have you seen that commercial where Brett Favre can't make a decision about which tv to buy and then says, "Some people just can't make decisions."

Adam was talking to one of his buddies from work about that commercial. Fast forward the conversation 10 minutes or so, and his friend asked him, "So, have you guys picked out your tile and hardwood floors yet?" Adam says, "No, my wife can't seem to make a decision." Too funny!

I am proud to announce we have made our decisions. It only took 2 1/2 months. Can I get a "HALLELUJAH!!!"

Master Bathroom:
It's funny that it took me 2 1/2 months to make this decision because this was the very first tile I looked at. It was at the Tile Shop in Indianapolis. There was an actual shower display with this tile and I fell in love it. It was very different than what I thought I was looking for. But after 2 months, I kept going back to this tile, so we finally made a decision. And, I am very happy with it. We actually got a 25% discount on everything at the Tile Shop because I am a Community employee. It pays to be a nurse sometimes!!

This was a picture I took in the Tile Shop of the shower
that was on display. Isn't it pretty? Every piece of tile
is a little bit different.

Here are 2 samples that I brought home. This will be the tile in the shower walls and the on the floor in the bathroom. We are also going to surround the tub with this tile. The tub will be a drop-in with the tile around it.

This will be the floor in the shower.

Same floor, just no flash this time.

The top piece is an accent that we are going to put in the shower. It will be about 1/2 way to 3/4 way up in the shower to make a border.
The bottom piece here will be another accent. We will have 4 tiles, cut a corner off each tile and make a diamond shaped and put that little piece there. It will add some color to the bathroom. Hard to explain, but it should look good.
